Mexico has strong cooperation, trade, political and economic ties with Japan, a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region. It is currently our third most important trading partner worldwide and our main Asian investor. In addition, due to the number of ongoing projects, the diverse sectors and various forms of collaboration, our cooperation with Japan is one of our broadest and strongest relations.
The Mexican government reaffirms its strong condemnation of this most recent launch, which poses a threat to the security of Japan and the region. North Korea’s missile launches, coupled with its nuclear weapons program, disrupt international peace and security; are in flagrant violation of international law and multiple binding UN Security Council resolutions; and hamper multilateral efforts to bring about a climate of stability and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
Mexico reiterates that North Korea is required to comply with the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council since 2006, which require North Korea to suspend ballistic missile launches, its nuclear weapons program, and any other act of provocation. Mexico will continue to implement the measures required in the resolutions with which all UN member states must comply.
