During their working visit to Washington, D.C., the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray; and Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo; met with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross; U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer; and White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner for a general discussion about the trade relationship between Mexico and the United States and the current state of the process of modernizing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Both countries’ officials reviewed the progress made during the first round of negotiations that took place in Washington, D.C. from August 16-20 and agreed to continue pushing for NAFTA’s modernization. The second round of negotiations will be held in Mexico City from September 1-5.
