Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will make an official visit to Mexico on October 12-13, following President Enrique Peña Nieto’s State visit to Canada in June 2016.
The Prime Minister’s visit reaffirms both countries’ desire to further the high-level dialogue and to work on behalf of our societies. During the Prime Minister’s visit, the two leaders will also continue to collaborate on key aspects of the bilateral agenda, in addition to issues related to competitiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation, and on expanding bilateral trade.
In 2016, Canada ranked as Mexico’s fourth largest trading partner, with bilateral trade in excess of USD 20 billion. More than 96,000 Mexicans live in Canada, making it the country with the second largest Mexican community abroad.
After the September 19 earthquake, in addition to conveying its heartfelt condolences to the families, government and people of Mexico, the Canadian government demonstrated its solidarity by sending 1,500 tents to the victims and by donating $100,000 CAD to the Mexican Red Cross (CRM). The Ontario Premier also announced a donation of $100,000 CAD to the CRM.
