Both ambassadors assessed the bilateral relationship, reviewed the main bilateral issues and highlighted the continuity of the political dialogue in recent years.
They agreed that there is great potential to increase trade and investment, and agreed to keep working to expand the contacts between the business communities of both countries in order to strengthen the bilateral trade relationships.
With regards to cooperation, they welcomed the upcoming fifth meeting of the Joint Committee on Cultural, Educational and Sports Cooperation in November and the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical and Maritime Transport Cooperation in the first half of 2018. These meetings will help find new possibilities for cooperation in a wide range of areas.
Both officials agreed to make further progress with strengthening the bilateral legal framework in order to continue increasing cooperation in various areas.
They welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Diplomatic and Academic Affairs between the Mexican Foreign Ministry and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry and served as witnesses of honor at the signing of the MoU by Ambassador Norma Pensado and Rector Evgueni Bazhanov.
Mexico and Russia established diplomatic relations on December 12, 1890. Bilateral trade in 2016 totaled USD 1.48 billion dollars.
