This year, as one of the Summit’s activities and at China’s initiative, invitations were extended to the President of Mexico and to the leaders of Egypt, Guinea (Chair of the African Union), Thailand (Chair of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue) and Tajikistan (in representation of the Central Asian region) to hold a dialogue on the following topics:
- Collaboration to advance implementation of the 2030 Agenda
- Deepening South-South cooperation
- Promoting connectivity and trade
- Mechanisms for eradicating poverty
President Peña Nieto will also participate in the 2017 BRICS Business Forum, where more than 800 business leaders will discuss opportunities for investment, trade, connectivity, financial cooperation and development, and the “blue economy” (the sustainable use of marine resources).
In addition, the Mexican president will hold a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, a reflection of the excellent state of the Mexico-China relationship and part of the commemoration this year of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. This will be the seventh meeting between the two leaders and will serve to continue deepening and strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2013.
Lastly, on September 6, President Peña Nieto will visit the Chinese company Alibaba, a leading private consortium in e-commerce and the digital economy, in Hangzhou. The Mexican government and Alibaba are working so that Mexican companies, especially SMEs, can utilize the company’s commercial platform—used by more than 500 million consumers in different countries around the world—for their products and services.
