The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carlos de Icaza and ProMéxico Director General Paulo Carreño King traveled to Kazakhstan to take part in the National Day of Mexico at the EXPO 2017 Astana International Exhibition. At the expo, they highlighted Mexico’s commitment to renewable energy and discussed opportunities for business, trade and investment in Mexico.
Expo Astana 2017 is a World Expo taking place in the capital of Kazakhstan this year with the theme of “Future Energy.” Mexico’s participation helps strengthen relations with Kazakhstan, which opened an embassy in Mexico in 2014.
Undersecretary De Icaza also met with Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov to discuss the bilateral relationship and regional issues. The undersecretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev also co-chaired the first meeting for consultations on issues of common interest, at which time they reviewed the progress made in political, economic and cooperation affairs and commented on their areas of agreement in multilateral affairs.
The trip to Astana is an indication of Mexico’s interest in deepening its bilateral relationship with Kazakhstan during the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
