The Foreign Ministry commends the solidarity of the Mexican community and friends of Mexico who have come together to help the victims of the September 7 and 19 earthquakes.
More than one hundred collection centers have been set up in the United States and Canada, a clear example of the organizational capacity of the Mexicans there and a reflection of their deep ties with Mexico.
The Foreign Ministry is taking part in these efforts by joining forces with the Mexican airlines Aeromar, Aeroméxico, Interjet, TAR Airlines, Viva Aerobús and Volaris to help transport the donations in kind made in the United States and Canada.
In addition, with the help of the National Chamber of Air Transport (CANAERO), Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Copa Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue Airways, LATAM, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines are also participating.
We are also grateful for the support of international transport and shipping companies such as Estafeta, DHL and FedEx, as well as local and regional companies on both sides of the border, for helping to deliver the donations to their destinations in Mexico.
The Tax Administration Service (Finance Ministry) announced specific measures on September 20 to facilitate the customs procedures for donations entering the country.
In addition, the Communication and Transportation Ministry will exempt cargo vehicles identified with a “Paisanos por Mexico” label that are transporting donations to the affected areas from paying tolls. The Federal Police will accompany and provide security for the truck drivers.
The Foreign Ministry will continue to work with the private sector and civil society in Mexico and abroad to maximize the coverage and impact of the aid.
